Recycle The Benefits
Ethical IT Recycling – Why Recycle

Why Recycle?

There are strong moral and ethical reasons why you should recycle, however, you must be aware that any company disposing of more than 200kg (or 15 CRT monitors) has a legal obligation to ensure outmoded electronic equipment is disposed of responsibly and in line with current legislation.

Householders and businesses in the UK throw at least one million tonnes of electrical and electronic equipment away each year, and this figure is estimated to increase annually by up to 80,000 tonnes. This is clearly unsustainable.

Keeping you the right side of the law

Ethical IT Recycling keeps abreast of all the legislation regarding the disposal of hardware and components and can keep your business on the right side of the law.
There are two key pieces of UK and European law that affect businesses and households in relation to the safe disposal of unwanted IT equipment, namely The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive and the

Hazardous Waste Regulation.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) is a positive move for the environment that ensures everyone does their bit to dispose of their obsolete equipment responsibly. The WEEE Directive aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic equipment on the environment. Ethical IT Recycling follows the criteria set out in the Directive for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

More recently, The Hazardous Waste Regulation has been updated to cover items such as computer monitors. The purpose of the Hazardous Waste Regulation is to provide an effective system of control for these wastes and to ensure that they are soundly managed from their point of production to their final destination for disposal or recovery.
